Childbirth and Parenting Classes

Providing information and support throughout the entire pregnancy is vital for you and your family.

Our classes are open to any expectant mums and their partners, to help them understand pregnancy, delivery and the transition to becoming parents.

All classes are conducted by our qualified midwifery educators.
Classes run over 2 consecutive Saturday’s, either 9.00am to 1.00pm or 2.00pm to 6.00pm.

Classes cover topics such as:

  • Pregnancy concerns
  • Stages of labour and birth
  • Obstetric interventions
  • Pain relief
  • Role of the support person and helpful ideas
  • Postnatal care of mum
  • Breastfeeding
  • Formula feeding and sterilizing
  • Newborn characterises and their patterns of behaviour and communication
  • Care of your newborn
  • Parenting skills
  • Sleep and settling techniques
  • Tests while in hospital
  • Community support
  • Tour of our Maternity unit

Classes cost $300.00 per couple and payment is required 2 weeks prior to your classes commencing. Antenatal Classes may be covered as part of your Health Fund cover for partial refund.

Postnatal Education

We provide a series of education classes during your stay, designed for new and previous mums in mind.
Classes include Breastfeeding, Physiotherapy, sleep and settling techniques, baby bath demonstrations and going home / life with a newborn baby.

Maternity Unit Tours

We offer Maternity Unit Tours every Saturday at 10.00am and 10.30am. This tour includes a guided visit to our Delivery Suite, Antenatal and Postnatal Unit and Special Care Nursery, by one of our experienced midwifery staff.

Whether you have booked into the hospital already and want to familiarise yourself, or if you are still deciding on a hospital, please join us for a tour.

Tour bookings are essential to ensure we provide you with adequate time and a small group environment, and of course questions regarding our hospital and maternity service are more than welcome.
